Helping Lives Blossom

The community outreach program in Peel Region is aimed at helping the vulnerable and the less privileged through outreaches.

SMC platform creates an opportunity for seniors to socialize with each other, reduce social isolation, stress and loneliness. Having reasons for seniors to smile again and network, develop positive mindset, discover their skills, to live a healthy and active life.

Seniors and youth networking programs are funded by the government of Canada. The aim is to create a free and friendly learning environment for seniors to learn basic computer skills and to safely use the internet while engaging them in intergenerational relationships with young adults, students and volunteers who would be impacted by the wisdom and life experience of the seniors.

The program gives seniors the chance to experience computer, gain new skills and confidence while learning in a small environment. For example, basic computer skills and internet access would expose seniors on how to interact and communicate with their friends and families through emails, skype and Facebook. By using the web, they can learn more about their health which can improve the quality of life. Being a computer literate can transform seniors’ lives and make their retirement much more enjoyable.

Glorious Women of Wonders is making impact as we are responding to the covid-19 pandemic, while we meet the needs of seniors and contribute to their quality of life in the community.

Activities includes:

  1. Preventing seniors’ social isolation in a time of recommended social distancing / self-quarantine by promoting computer literacy and virtual activities among seniors;
  2. Support seniors who are self-isolating at home by delivering food and medication. We monitor seniors to ensure their needs are met and to provide moral support (by phone and via online apps such as FaceTime and Zoom);
  3. Assist seniors to undertake essential activities, such as visits to the doctor;
  4. Assist community organizations to provide the types of support listed above, including hiring staff to replace a loss of volunteerism capacity due to the outbreak (many volunteers are seniors that need to self-isolate);
  5. Provide information to seniors regarding how to care for themselves during the pandemic.
  6. Support the ability of seniors to stay connected with their community, their family, including through smart phones, tablets (e.g. iPhone and iPads) and remote tutorials.
